Chapter 4
I was wrong. Chance wasn't heading straight for Penelope. He walked by the circle of people around her, his jaw set and his eyes focused on her manager, Tyler. The crowd, who had been chattering, went silent. The only sound was of the paparazzi cameras clicking thousands of pictures.
Tyler didn't even look up from Penelope as Chance walked up to him. His eyes only saw Penelope. Chance, on the other hand, hadn't even glanced at Penelope's body. All he saw was Tyler.
âThis is all your fault,â Chance said, throwing a punch at Tyler's face.
Tyler looked up, but then he just took the punch. He didn't even move to block it. I wasn't sure if he didn't have time to react or if he was so numb from Penelope's death that he didn't care. His face whipped back at the contact of Chance's fist. A trickle of blood oozed from Tyler's bottom lip.
âYeah! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!â Cole yelled, and a couple of other people started chanting along with him.
Tyler looked over at Chance, finally reacting. His eyes were ablaze with anger as he moved to face Chance. âHow dare you accuse me when you...â
Tyler didn't even finish his sentence as he took his own swing at Chance's face. He struck him hard with an audible crack. Whoa. Did he break Chance Fox's beautiful nose? Blood gushed out of it. I couldn't look away. Chance didn't seem to notice. He was already pulling his fist back to strike Tyler again.
The police swooped in before he could take another swing. An officer restrained Chance. A second policeman grabbed Tyler. The photographers continued to snap pictures. It was going to be a monumentally huge day in celebrity gossip. They had a murder, a celebrity brawl, and potentially a celebrity arrest. Killer Cupcakes, er, Celebrity Cupcakes and Coffee was about to get an infamous reputation.
I turned to Charlotte, surprised that she hadn't started a running commentary on the fight after her initial shock of seeing Chance in the flesh. I found that she wasn't standing next to me anymore. I looked around and saw her making her way toward Chance, who was now sitting on the ground, a policeman standing over him.
I did a double take. Had Charlotte climbed over the small fence around the patio to get to Chance? I watched her in awe. Saying anything that came to mind was one thing, but it looked like she did anything that came to mind too.
Chance was saying something to the policeman keeping him from restarting the fight with Tyler, but I couldn't hear anything. Maybe he was threatening a really expensive lawsuit since the officer was nervously eyeing all of the paparazzi cameras.
Charlotte walked up to both of them, saying something. She was lucky the cop wasn't wrestling her to the ground and arresting her too. The policeman said something back to her. Charlotte nodded and she held out a tissue to Chance. He looked up at her. Their eyes locked. I almost expected the swelling of a music score.
